The Action Peoples Party (APP) in Osun State has officially affirmed Bamiji Clement Adesuyi as its governorship candidate for the 2026 general election, following a peaceful and transparent primary election conducted on Monday.
Speaking during his acceptance speech, Adesuyi pledged total commitment to the success of the party at the forthcoming Osun 2026 governorship poll. He assured party members that he would do everything within his capacity to justify the confidence reposed in him.
The APP flagbearer emphasised that the party remains one indivisible family in Osun State, stressing that unity would be the cornerstone of its electoral strength.
“I assure you that I will not betray the trust of the party and its members. This primary election was conducted strictly in line with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and it reflects our collective commitment to democracy,” Adesuyi said.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Osun State Chairman of the Action Peoples Party, Oluseye Titus Odesola, described the primary election as a defining moment in the history of the party in the state.
Odesola assured delegates that the process would be fair, peaceful, and transparent, while urging all participants to conduct themselves with dignity and strict adherence to party rules and regulations.
Delivering a goodwill message, the APP National Organising Secretary, Barrister Obed Agu, commended the resilience and steadfastness of the Osun State chapter of the party, noting that the national leadership was proud of its consistency and unity.
He conveyed the message of the party’s National Chairman, who appealed to members to remain resolute, warning against what he described as a growing drift towards a one-party system in Nigeria.
“Nigeria must not slide into a one-party system. Such an agenda is devilish and completely against the principles of true democracy. The Action Peoples Party will resist it,” Agu said.
He added, “We will practise democracy in Nigeria, and APP has come to stay. In whatever weather, we have come to stay like the elephant. We are resolute and steadfast; we do not shake. Tomorrow will be better.”
According to him, while many political parties are currently plagued by internal divisions, the APP has remained united, with no factional disputes.
“There is nothing like faction in APP, and we will never be divided,” he declared.
Barrister Agu also lamented the prevailing economic hardship, poor road infrastructure, and rising insecurity across the country, calling on party members to remain hopeful and committed to building a better Nigeria.
At the end of the voting exercise, Bamiji Clement Adesuyi, who was the sole aspirant, was affirmed through 39 votes of affirmation by accredited delegates.
Announcing the result, the Osun APP Chairman, Odesola, stated that all 39 delegates unanimously affirmed Adesuyi as the party’s governorship candidate, officially handing him the mandate to fly the party’s flag in the 2026 Osun governorship election.
