The Concerned Progressive Youths of Osun West have distanced the All Progressives Congress (APC) from recent comments attributed to Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, describing the remarks as reckless and inconsistent with the party’s position.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the group called for restraint, unity, and discipline among party stakeholders, warning against actions capable of creating disunity within the APC ahead of the 2027 senatorial elections.
The youths also dismissed as false and misleading claims that the Presidency had invited Governor Ademola Adeleke for any form of political engagement or alignment, describing such reports as deliberate attempts to destabilize the party.
“At no time did the Presidency invite Governor Adeleke. These are concocted stories designed to distract our members and create unnecessary tension within the progressive fold,” the statement read.
Reacting to a viral video allegedly featuring Dr. Ogunbiyi, the group maintained that his comments do not reflect the stance of the APC in Osun State.
“The reckless statement credited to Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi does not in any way represent the position of our great party. Rather, it raises serious concerns about his commitment to the ideals and discipline of the APC,” the group said.
The youths argued that any aspirant seeking to represent Osun West under the APC platform must demonstrate loyalty and act in ways that strengthen, rather than weaken, the party’s chances in future elections.
According to the statement, there were previous moves by Governor Adeleke to join the APC, but such attempts were rejected by party leaders at various levels, including the party’s apex leadership in the state.
The group further emphasized that the immediate focus of the APC remains the forthcoming August 15, 2026 governorship election, urging members to rally behind the party’s candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
They noted that recent defections of key political figures into the APC have strengthened the party’s structure and grassroots appeal across Osun State.
Among those cited were two serving senators, three members of the House of Representatives, alongside notable figures such as Omooba Dotun Babayemi, Hon. Kayode Oduoye, and Chief Shuaib Oyedokun.
“These defections reaffirm the confidence of the people in the APC as the only viable platform for progress and good governance,” the group stated.
The youths concluded with a call for unity among party faithful, urging members to remain focused and avoid distractions.
“Victory is within reach if we remain disciplined, united, and committed. We urge all progressives to close ranks and work tirelessly towards delivering Osun State for the APC on August 15,” the statement added.
