ABUJA, NIGERIA — Supporters and stakeholders of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) from Apapa Federal Constituency have taken their protest to Abuja, calling on the party's national leadership to uphold the outcome of the recently concluded primary election and recognize Hon. Chinomso Agomuoh as the party's authentic candidate.

The protesters, who described themselves as loyal members committed to the ideals of the NDC, expressed concern over what they termed alleged attempts to substitute the name of the primary election winner with another candidate.

According to the group, Hon. Chinomso Agomuoh emerged victorious in a transparent, free and fair primary election, securing the overwhelming support of delegates and party faithful who participated in the democratic process.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, the stakeholders insisted that any move to replace the winner of the primary election would amount to a betrayal of the democratic wishes of party members and a violation of the principles of internal democracy.

"The people of Apapa Federal Constituency have spoken through the ballot. Their decision must be respected and protected. Any attempt to substitute Hon. Chinomso Agomuoh with another candidate will undermine confidence in the party and weaken the trust of grassroots members," the group stated.

They emphasized that internal democracy remains the foundation of a credible political party, warning that disregarding the outcome of a duly conducted primary election could create divisions within the party and negatively affect its electoral fortunes.

The stakeholders therefore called on the National Working Committee and the leadership of the NDC to immediately affirm the results of the Apapa Federal Constituency primary election and issue the Certificate of Return to Hon. Chinomso Agomuoh as the party's flagbearer.

They also urged party leaders to resist any form of pressure or political manipulation aimed at imposing another candidate, stressing that justice, fairness and respect for democratic principles must prevail.

The group maintained that members across Apapa remain committed to the success of the NDC and are prepared to mobilize support ahead of the general elections, provided the mandate freely given to Hon. Agomuoh is respected.

They concluded by reiterating that the voice of party members must not be ignored, describing the situation as a critical test of the NDC's commitment to internal democracy and transparency.

The statement was jointly signed by Alfred Babatunde and Timothy Williams Ajayi on behalf of concerned NDC leaders and stakeholders in Apapa Federal Constituency.
