DON'T POLITICIZE TRAGEDY: Group Faults Pelumi Olajengbesi Over Allegations Linking Oke, Apc To Rogba's Death

A political group has condemned what it described as the premature politicization of the death of Ajayi Rogba, urging stakeholders to allow security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation rather than spread unverified allegations.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the group expressed deep sadness over the death of the young man, extending condolences to his family, friends, and residents of Esa-Oke.

"The death of any young person is a painful tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult period," the statement read.

The group, however, faulted comments made by legal practitioner and public affairs commentator Pelumi Olajengbesi, who reportedly linked the incident to Hon. Oluwole Oke and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the statement, such allegations are hasty, unverified, and capable of inflaming tensions within the community.

"At a time when emotions are understandably high, responsible leadership requires caution, restraint, and respect for due process. It is deeply unfortunate that conclusions are being drawn without the benefit of any official investigation or security report," the group stated.

The group maintained that available information within the community points to several possibilities regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident, stressing that only law enforcement agencies possess the authority and capacity to establish the facts.

It therefore called on the Nigeria Police and other relevant security agencies to conduct a comprehensive, professional, and impartial investigation into the matter.

While acknowledging the grief surrounding the incident, the group warned against turning a tragic loss into a political weapon.

"Every life is valuable, regardless of background or past controversies. The pursuit of justice must be guided by evidence, not emotion, speculation, or political considerations," the statement added.

Defending Hon. Oluwole Oke and the APC against the allegations, the group insisted that there is no evidence connecting either the lawmaker or the party to the incident.

"It is wrong and unfair to accuse individuals or political organizations of involvement in a matter that remains under investigation. Such claims are false, misleading, and undermine the principles of justice and fairness."

The group further urged Olajengbesi, as a legal practitioner, to uphold the values of evidence-based discourse and due process rather than public speculation.

It concluded by calling on residents and political actors to remain peaceful, avoid inflammatory rhetoric, and support efforts aimed at uncovering the truth.

"The memory of the deceased should be honoured through the pursuit of justice and truth. This is not the time for political point-scoring but for unity, responsibility, and respect for lawful processes."
