DIG, CP Commend Osun ALGON as 90 Patrol Vehicles Boost Security Across State

OSOGBO, Osun State — The Osun State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has completed the distribution of 90 operational patrol vehicles to security agencies across the state, describing the initiative as a major investment in public safety and a demonstration of the benefits of local government autonomy.

The final batch of 60 patrol vehicles was officially handed over during a ceremony held at the Osun State Police Command Headquarters in Osogbo, completing the distribution exercise initiated by the leadership of the 30 Local Government Areas and Ife-East Area Office.

The vehicles were allocated to major security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security formations operating in the state.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Osun ALGON, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, said the intervention fulfilled a commitment made by local government chairmen to strengthen security architecture across Osun State.

"Just a few weeks ago, we unveiled the first batch of these patrol vehicles. Today, we are pleased to complete the exercise. This is indeed a promise made and a promise kept," he said.

Abiodun stressed that peace and security remain the foundation of sustainable development, noting that local governments, being the closest tier of government to the people, are best positioned to identify and respond to grassroots security challenges.

He argued that the initiative also reflects the positive impact of local government autonomy, saying greater financial and administrative independence has enabled councils to execute people-oriented projects without unnecessary delays.

According to him, the patrol vehicles represent not only a security intervention but also practical evidence that empowered local governments can deliver meaningful development directly to their communities.

The ALGON chairman also commended security agencies for their dedication to protecting lives and property across the state, urging residents to support security operatives with credible and timely information.

He charged the beneficiary agencies to deploy and maintain the vehicles responsibly to enhance crime prevention, emergency response, and public safety.

In his remarks, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Southwest, DIG Fayoade Mustapha, applauded the initiative, describing security as a shared responsibility requiring collaboration between government and security institutions.

He said the additional operational vehicles would improve mobility, response time, intelligence gathering, patrol coverage, and inter-agency cooperation in combating crime across Osun State.

Mustapha assured residents that the vehicles would be used strictly for security operations and reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to maintaining a peaceful environment for businesses and residents.

The ceremony attracted political leaders, local government chairmen, councillors, senior government officials, and traditional stakeholders. Among those in attendance were former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye; Director-General of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, Hon. Oluwole Oke; Senior Special Assistant to the President on Protocol, Ambassador Issah Niniola; National Commissioner representing Osun and Oyo at the Federal Civil Service Commission, Dr. Festus Oyebade Olowogboyega; APC State Treasurer, Hon. Femi Kujembola; Hon. Bisi Oladosu; ALGON Secretary, Hon. Sola Ogunfolaju; ALGON Treasurer, alongside all local government chairmen and councillors.
