 ESA-OKE, Osun State — The Akogun of Esa-Oke, Chief Abiodun Owoeye, has condemned Governor Ademola Adeleke over remarks allegedly made against the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Committee, Hon. Wole Oke, during a condolence visit to the community.


Chief Owoeye described the governor's comments as disrespectful to the people of Esa-Oke, arguing that referring to one of the town's prominent sons as a "bastard" on his ancestral soil violated the community's cultural values and traditions.


"It is sacrilege to call our son a 'bastard' on our soil," the traditional chief said, stressing that political disagreements should not override respect for cultural norms and communal values.


According to him, traditional etiquette demands restraint from public office holders, particularly when addressing grieving communities already grappling with heightened political tension.


Governor Adeleke visited Esa-Oke on Wednesday to commiserate with the family of Ajayi Rogba, an Accord Party member who was reportedly killed by suspected political thugs.


During the visit, the governor allegedly accused Hon. Wole Oke of being connected to the violence in the area and reportedly directed strong words and curses at the APC campaign chief while addressing residents.


Reacting to the development, Chief Owoeye faulted the governor's approach, maintaining that such remarks were capable of deepening political divisions rather than promoting reconciliation.


He argued that calling a respected son of Esa-Oke derogatory names in the presence of his kinsmen amounted to an affront to the entire community and could further inflame tensions ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.


The Akogun urged political leaders across party lines to exercise caution in their public statements and prioritize peace, mutual respect and responsible leadership as the election draws nearer.


The development adds another dimension to the growing political exchanges surrounding recent violence in Esa-Oke, with stakeholders from different political camps continuing to trade accusations while calls for a thorough and impartial investigation into Ajayi Rogba's death persist.
