ESA-OKE, Osun State — Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 7, Esa-Oke, have distanced the party and the Director-General of the Osun APC Campaign Council, Hon. Wole Oke, from the circumstances surrounding the death of Ajayi Rogba, urging that the incident should not be politicised and calling for a thorough investigation by security agencies.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the APC, through the former Special Adviser on Health and Chairman of the Governorship Campaign for Obokun Local Government, Prof. Siji Olamiju,
expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, describing Rogba's death as a painful loss that has thrown the Esa-Oke community into mourning.
Prof. Olamiju said the tragic incident should not be exploited for partisan purposes, insisting that justice could only be achieved through a professional, transparent and impartial investigation by the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies.
"We are particularly concerned that certain individuals have hastily linked this unfortunate incident to politics without allowing the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to conclude their investigations," he said.
According to the APC, allegations linking either the party or Hon. Wole Oke to the incident are unfounded, politically motivated and unsupported by credible evidence.
The party maintained that neither APC Ward 7 in Esa-Oke nor Hon. Wole Oke had any connection with the circumstances surrounding Ajayi Rogba's death.
The APC also appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke and other public office holders to exercise restraint and allow security agencies to carry out their constitutional responsibilities independently, without political interference or premature conclusions.
Calling for a comprehensive investigation, the party urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to pursue every credible lead, including obtaining statements from all individuals whose testimonies could assist investigators.
The APC specifically mentioned Erebe, Dele Ajayi, Barr. Idowu Akinshola, Abuga, Muri, Mewo and White among those it believes should be invited for questioning, while adding that investigators should also question any other persons considered relevant to the case.
It stressed that no individual should be presumed guilty until lawful investigations have been concluded and due process followed.
Acknowledging that varying accounts of the incident have continued to circulate within the community, the party insisted that only the outcome of a credible investigation should determine the actual circumstances surrounding Rogba's death.
The APC further appealed to residents of Esa-Oke to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information and cooperate fully with security agencies throughout the investigation.
Reaffirming its commitment to justice and accountability, the party stated that anyone found culpable after a lawful and impartial investigation should face the full weight of the law, regardless of political affiliation, social status or influence.
The party concluded by urging political stakeholders to honour the memory of the deceased by allowing truth, justice and due process to prevail over politics, expressing hope that justice would ultimately be served in the interest of the bereaved family, the Esa-Oke community and democracy.
