The Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, has dismissed allegations that he received a Toyota Hilux vehicle from Dr. Deji Adeleke, elder brother of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Omoyele described the allegation, reportedly made by the Forum of APC Former Legislators, as false, misleading and politically motivated, insisting that the claims were aimed at distracting the Corps from its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property across the state.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Public Relations Officer of the Corps, CSA Yusuf Idowu Abass, the Commander maintained that the Osun Amotekun Corps has remained professional, impartial and apolitical since its establishment.
He stated that the security outfit serves all residents of Osun State irrespective of political affiliation and has consistently discharged its duties without fear or favour.
Reacting to the controversy, Omoyele noted that although security patrol vehicles were recently distributed to several security agencies by APC local government chairmen, the Osun Amotekun Corps was excluded from the exercise despite being the security agency closest to grassroots communities.
He questioned why the Corps continues to be drawn into partisan debates despite maintaining political neutrality.
"The Osun Amotekun Corps belongs to the people of Osun State, not to any political party. Our loyalty is to the law, and the safety and security of our citizens," he said.
The Corps Commander also cited a Yoruba proverb to reinforce his position: "TΓ a Γ² bΓ‘ lΓ¨ fΓΊn afα»́jΓΊ nΓ α»̀pΓ‘ titun, kΓ² yαΊΉ kΓ Γ‘ tΓΊn gba tα»wα»́ rαΊΉ̀," which translates to, "If you can't give a blind man a new walking stick, don't take away the one in his hand."
According to him, there is nothing unusual about providing the Corps Commander with an official vehicle to effectively supervise security operations across the state, arguing that operational mobility is essential for effective service delivery.
Omoyele further urged political actors to refrain from involving security institutions in partisan contests, warning that such actions could erode public confidence in agencies established to protect all citizens.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Osun Amotekun Corps to maintaining peace and security across Osun State, stressing that the agency would continue to operate professionally while supporting all lawful efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
