Osun Police Arrest 24 Suspected Cultists, Political Thugs Ahead of Governorship Election

The Osun State Police Command has announced the arrest of 24 suspected cultists and political thugs as part of intensified operations aimed at restoring public peace and strengthening security ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.

Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, mnips, said the Command remains committed to tackling cult-related violence, political thuggery, and other criminal activities threatening the peace of the state.


The Police Commissioner commended members of the media and other stakeholders for their continued support and collaboration in the fight against crime, stressing that public cooperation has remained vital to the Command's operational successes.

According to him, the briefing was convened to keep residents informed of the Command's sustained efforts to combat cultism, violent crimes, and politically motivated disturbances across Osun State.

CP Gotan noted that the Command is fully aware of recent cult-related killings and acts of thuggery that have generated public concern, with some incidents attracting political interpretations.

He disclosed that intelligence-led operations and strategic deployments led to the arrest of 24 suspects allegedly connected with the criminal activities.

The suspects listed by the Command include Kareem Saheed, also known as "Tanfiani"; Oyeladun Muideen, popularly called "Akilapa"; Ridwan Adekola; Mukaila Azeez, also known as "Mikki"; Sunday Friday, alias "Akube"; Olamilekan Fatai; Tiamiyu Ismail; Famuyiwa Adekunle Toib; Ajiboye Toheed; Morufu Sodiq; Folorunsho Moshood; Hassan Sodiq; Badiru Saheed; Adegoke Olalekan; Faruk Olawale; Iyanuoluwa Sarumi; Afolabi Ahmed; Adeshina Lukman; Mutiu Opeyemi; Olushola Daniel; Abiola Olabode; Azeez Abiodun; Babatunde Kehinde; and Dada Mayowa.


The Commissioner reiterated the Command's determination to rid Osun State of criminal elements and ensure a peaceful atmosphere before, during, and after the forthcoming governorship election.

He warned cultists, political thugs, and other individuals involved in criminal activities to desist from acts capable of disrupting public peace or face the full weight of the law.


CP Gotan also assured law-abiding residents that the Osun State Police Command would continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities with professionalism, neutrality, and impartiality while upholding the rule of law without fear or favour.


He further appealed to residents to sustain their support and cooperation by providing credible information that would assist security agencies in preventing crime and maintaining peace across the state.
