Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, has appealed for calm among party members and supporters while expressing concern over what he described as renewed attacks on APC members across the state.
Oyebamiji, in a statement issued on Monday, August 17, commended APC leaders, members, supporters and volunteers for their commitment to his campaign, saying their support for the alternative vision presented to the people of Osun would remain deeply appreciated.
He acknowledged that the outcome of the election was different from what his party had hoped for, but said he respected the position of the electoral umpire and supported the APC’s decision to review the outcome.
“Although we had hoped for a different outcome in the election, we respect the position of the electoral umpire and I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election,” Oyebamiji said.
The APC candidate also thanked voters who supported his candidacy, as well as campaign volunteers, party leaders and members who worked across the state during the electioneering period.
According to him, while the campaign and election have ended, the principles and development agenda promoted by his campaign remain relevant to the future of Osun State.
He therefore urged APC supporters to remain engaged in their communities and continue contributing to the development of the state.
Oyebamiji, however, raised an alarm over what he described as an emerging pattern of hostility and violence against APC members and supporters in the aftermath of the election.
He alleged that attacks witnessed during the build-up to the election had taken a new dimension within the 24 hours preceding his statement.
“Consequently, I urge the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intervene and arrest this ugly trend without delay,” he said.
The APC candidate further called on the state government and security agencies to protect residents and prevent the post-election period from degenerating into violence.
He urged his supporters to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding while going about their daily activities, stressing the need to protect the peace of Osun State.
Oyebamiji concluded by thanking voters, supporters, party members and leaders for their sacrifices and commitment, saying he remained proud of the campaign conducted by his team.
He also expressed gratitude to those who entrusted him with their votes and reaffirmed his commitment to the collective development of Osun State.
“God bless you all. God bless Osun State. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
