The Chairman of the Diaspora Mobilisation Committee of the Imole Campaign Council (TICC), Comrade Aderinto Muktar Adesola, has announced plans for a landmark Diaspora Summit aimed at bringing together Osun indigenes from across the world to assess the developmental achievements of Governor Ademola Adeleke and engage in discussions on the state's future.

In a statement made available to Oriontimes, Adesola described the gathering as the first event of its kind in Osun State's history, saying it would provide an opportunity for members of the diaspora to physically inspect projects executed by the Adeleke administration after closely following government activities through online platforms.

According to him, the delegation intends to verify the government's development claims through on-the-ground inspections before taking a position on the governor's performance. He noted that the inspection exercise is expected to culminate in an endorsement of Governor Adeleke for a second term to enable him to complete what supporters describe as an eight-year development agenda.

The summit will begin with an interdenominational prayer session at the Local Government Civil Service Commission Hall in Abere, featuring Christian and Muslim leaders. Adesola said the programme is being coordinated in line with directives from the President of the Osun State Community in Diaspora, Otunba Yemisi Kolawole Oladeji, alongside European/Canada Zonal Coordinator Chief Christiana Abatan, Deputy Zonal Coordinator Alhaji Mudasiru Olaboye, ECOWAS Assistant Deputy Coordinator Alhaji Saheed, ECOWAS Assistant Alhaji Mojeed Giwa, Internal Diaspora Coordinator Mrs. Adelowokan and other stakeholders.

Activities lined up for the summit include inspections of key government projects, courtesy visits to traditional rulers, visits to orphanage homes where relief materials and gifts will be distributed, and engagements with various community leaders.

The diaspora delegation will also visit the Osun State House of Assembly to advocate legislation that would allow Osun indigenes living abroad to exercise voting rights without travelling back to Nigeria.

Adesola disclosed that legal experts and public affairs stakeholders expected at the event include Bamidele Salam, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Kolapo Alimi, Dr. Biyi Odunlade, HRM Dr. Faforijin, Chief Mrs. Wumi Otula and other diaspora consultants.

As part of the programme, chairmen representing the nine federal constituency diaspora groups are expected to participate in a one-hour live dialogue on the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC), where they will discuss the Adeleke administration's developmental initiatives and their observations from the project inspection tour.

The summit will conclude with a meeting between the diaspora delegation and Governor Adeleke to discuss issues relating to Osun State's development. The governor is also expected to unveil his second-term manifesto before supporters at the Local Government Civil Service Commission Hall in Abere, Osogbo, where participants are expected to formally endorse his re-election bid.

Expected at the event are Governor Adeleke and his wife, the Chief of Staff, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly and members of the Assembly. Senator Akogun Lere Oyewumi is expected to lead the delegation of senators, while Hon. Bamidele Salam will head members of the House of Representatives. The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Osun State, Alhaji Awotunde Sarafadeen, is expected to lead local government chairmen, alongside commissioners, special advisers, senior special assistants, Yeyeluwa Dupe Adeleke and other dignitaries.

Editor's Note: The planned endorsement of Governor Adeleke for a second term reflects the position of the organisers and supporters of the event.
