OSOGBO – The Osun State Government has disputed an advertorial published by the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the front page of the Nigerian Tribune on August 4, alleging that a road featured in the publication was wrongly attributed to the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the government claimed that the road shown in the advertorial was constructed during the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
According to the statement, the road is located in the Mukoro area of Ile-Ife and not in Modakeke as reportedly indicated in the APC advertorial.
The commissioner said the government had attached the GPS coordinates of the road and urged members of the public to verify its location through Google Maps and other independent sources.
"The Adeleke Administration has a number of projects in Ife and Modakeke. This is not one of them. The one we have in the area has not even been marked. This is misinformation by whoever placed the advert. The publication is therefore simply fake news," the statement read.
The state government further maintained that while it has undertaken remediation and corrective works on several projects inherited from the previous administration, the road in question was not among projects executed by the current government.
It accused the Osun APC of attempting to attribute alleged defects on a project executed under the Oyetola administration to the Adeleke government, describing the move as misleading.
The government consequently called on the public to independently verify the claim, insisting that the featured road was constructed during the Oyetola administration.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State chapter of the APC had not publicly responded to the state's latest claims regarding the advertorial.
