Osun Poll: Grand Mufti Commends INEC, Security Operatives Over Peaceful Election

IWO, Osun State — The Grand Mufti of Yorubaland and National President of Jamaatu Ta'awun Muslimi, Sheikh Dahood Muramalasa, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security operatives for the peaceful conduct of the ongoing Osun State governorship election.

Sheikh Muramalasa spoke shortly after casting his ballot at Ward 2, Ile Malasa, Unit 7, in Iwo, where he expressed satisfaction with the conduct of voters and security personnel across the state.

According to the cleric, the election had so far been peaceful, with voters exercising their franchise without fear or intimidation.

“We are very surprised and very happy that everything is going well. There is no crisis. Even all security men are doing their job very well. There is no problem,” he said.

The Grand Mufti urged INEC officials to uphold the integrity of the electoral process, describing their responsibility as an “Amana” (trust) that must be faithfully discharged.

He also appealed to the three leading governorship candidates to accept the outcome of the election and urged whoever emerges victorious to prioritise the welfare and needs of the people.

“My message to them is that they must look after their people. People are voting seriously for them. Nobody should fear anything. That means people love them, and they must do everything that the people are requesting from them,” Muramalasa said.

He further called on all electoral stakeholders to ensure that votes cast by citizens are accurately counted and reflected in the final results.

“We don't want to hear anything called rigging. There is no rigging in the ongoing election. People are voting well. What we expect is to see the result,” he added.

The cleric's remarks come as voting continues across Osun State, with stakeholders closely monitoring the process and urging voters and political actors to maintain peace throughout the exercise.
