IBADAN, OYO STATE — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Lagelu State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olaore Naheem Oladimeji, has paid a courtesy visit to renowned Nigerian author, poet and academic, Dr. Bayo Adebowale, at the African Heritage Research Library and Cultural Centre in Adeyipo, Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The visit brought together political engagement and cultural appreciation as Olaore honoured Adebowale, whose decades of contribution to Nigerian literature, African studies and cultural preservation have earned him recognition within and beyond Nigeria.
Dr. Adebowale is the founder of the African Heritage Research Library and Cultural Centre, a pioneering rural community-based African studies research library established to preserve African literature, history and cultural heritage while providing resources for researchers, students and members of the surrounding communities.
Located in Adeyipo, the centre has grown beyond a conventional library to incorporate cultural and educational facilities, including an African music auditorium, a talking-drum museum and other heritage-related initiatives. Recent reports indicate that its collection has expanded to more than 150,000 books and magazines.
Olaore's visit also recognised the importance of the institution and its founder to the intellectual and cultural identity of Lagelu, particularly the role of Adeyipo in preserving African knowledge and heritage.
The ADC candidate described the engagement as an opportunity to honour an elder statesman of African letters and to appreciate the enduring intellectual legacy being built within the community.
The visit further underscores the place of culture, education and intellectual heritage in conversations about the future of Lagelu and its people.
