The Osun State Government has approved the establishment of a Joint Security Task Force (JTF) as part of measures to strengthen security operations and respond swiftly to emerging threats to lives and property across the state.
The decision followed a State Security Council meeting convened by Governor Ademola Adeleke and presided over by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, with the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Zungura, and other security commanders in attendance.
The government also pledged to provide the necessary logistics and operational support required for the effective take-off of the task force, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding residents and maintaining peace throughout the state.
While addressing the security chiefs, Prince Adewusi conveyed Governor Adeleke’s appreciation for their dedication during recent security challenges and urged them to remain vigilant in the face of fresh threats.
The Deputy Governor, accompanied by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Wole Jimi-Bada; the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina; and the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Mr. Samuel Ojo, reiterated the administration’s resolve to strengthen security institutions and improve coordination among agencies.
He also called on traditional rulers across the state to sustain community-level security oversight and support efforts aimed at preventing criminal activities.
During deliberations that lasted several hours, members of the Security Council reassured residents that Osun remains safe and secure despite recent security alerts. The council, however, urged citizens to remain vigilant and adopt enhanced security measures, particularly in churches, mosques, schools, and other public gathering places.
The council further appealed to members of the public to promptly share credible intelligence with security agencies, stressing that timely information remains a critical tool in preventing attacks by suspected terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements.
As part of immediate response measures, the Nigeria Police Force, working alongside other security agencies, was directed to maintain a 24-hour red alert status to counter potential threats and ensure rapid deployment when necessary.
The meeting also resolved that the Ministry of Justice, the Nigeria Police, and the Department of State Services (DSS) would work closely together to ensure that suspects arrested in connection with criminal activities are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted without unnecessary delays.
The Security Council concluded the meeting by commending the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Zungura, for the policing reforms initiated since assuming office and for his active participation in the high-level security meeting.
The government maintained that the safety of residents remains a top priority and assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to preserve peace and stability across Osun State.
