A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Member of the House of Representatives for Ijesa North Federal Constituency, Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke, has expressed profound grief over the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as the end of an era in Nigeria’s political and national development journey.
In a heartfelt statement released on Monday, Hon. Oke, who chairs the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, eulogized the late President as a towering figure whose life was marked by unwavering patriotism, exceptional discipline, and an unrelenting commitment to public service.
“We have lost a father figure, a man who embodied the spirit of sacrifice and devotion to the Nigerian state,” Oke said. “President Buhari’s death is not just a loss to the North or to the APC, but to the entire nation and to the African continent.”
Oke reflected on Buhari’s remarkable career trajectory, from a gallant military officer to Head of State, and eventually a democratically elected President, highlighting his firm principles on anti-corruption, transparency, and national cohesion.
“He lived for Nigeria. He fought for her dignity on and off the battlefield, and as President, he remained resolute in instilling fiscal discipline, curbing impunity, and raising the bar for leadership accountability,” he noted.
Hon. Oke recalled how Buhari’s administration redefined the fight against corruption and rebuilt global confidence in Nigeria’s leadership posture. He described the former President as a man of few words but immense moral weight, who never shied away from making tough decisions for the greater good.
“Though his leadership style was often austere, Buhari’s intentions for Nigeria were undeniably patriotic. His legacy of service, honesty, and commitment to nation-building is one that future leaders must strive to uphold,” the lawmaker added.
Oke extended his deepest condolences to the Buhari family, the Katsina Emirate, the federal government, and all Nigerians grieving this national loss. He prayed for divine comfort and strength to bear what he termed “an irreparable loss.”
In a final appeal, Hon. Oke called on all Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation to honor President Buhari’s memory by embracing the values he championed: integrity, national unity, and selfless service.
“Let us not mourn in despair, but draw strength from the ideals he lived for. Let every Nigerian recommit to the vision of a just, united, and prosperous nation. That is the truest tribute we can pay to a man who gave his all,” he concluded.
