Rep. Wole Oke Advocates Nigeria–China Visa-Free Ties to Boost Cooperation

In Urumqi, China, Nigerian lawmaker Hon. Oluwole Oke made a bold case for stronger ties between Nigeria and China. Speaking at the Global South Legislators’ Forum, the Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs urged both countries to move beyond trade and investment, and explore a non-visa relationship for diplomats and key officials.

According to Oke, easing travel restrictions would deepen cooperation, fast-track negotiations, and make diplomatic engagement more efficient. He emphasized that Nigeria and China already enjoy strong cultural and economic bonds, and removing barriers to official travel would only strengthen mutual trust and productivity.

Hon. Oke’s call reflects a wider vision—where diplomacy is not slowed by bureaucracy, but driven by trust, openness, and shared commitment to progress.
