Wole Oke Elected Chairman, West Africa Chapter of APNIFFT, Joins Continental Council

Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke, a prominent Nigerian lawmaker, has been elected Chairman of the West Africa  Chapter of APNiFT, and appointed as a Council Member of the APNIFFT Continental Body.

The development was announced during the 2025 APNIFFT Continental Conference held from October 13–15 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The event, themed “A Decade of Combating Illicit Financial Flows and Advancing Tax Justice: Reflection, Innovation, and Political Will,” marked ten years of parliamentary action across Africa to curb illicit financial flows and strengthen domestic resource mobilization.

Hon. Oke’s election as the West Africa Chair underscores Nigeria’s growing leadership role in continental fiscal governance and tax justice reforms. As a long-time advocate of transparency and accountability in public finance, he has consistently pushed for legislative oversight mechanisms that ensure the equitable use of national resources.

The African Parliamentary Network on Illicit Financial Flows and Taxation (APNIFFT) brings together lawmakers across the continent to promote sound tax policies, transparency in financial systems, and the fight against illicit financial flows that drain African economies. The body also works in partnership with civil society organizations and international institutions to advance reforms that enhance Africa’s fiscal independence.

Organized by the Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA), the 2025 conference gathered legislators, civil society actors, and policy experts to review progress, renew commitments, and set a strategic direction for the next decade of the APNIFFT agenda.

Hon. Oke’s new continental responsibilities are expected to strengthen collaboration among West African parliaments, deepen engagement with global financial reform initiatives, and push forward Africa’s collective stance on tax justice and fair trade.
