Olorunda LG Presents ₦6.95bn ‘Budget of Renewed Hope’ for 2026

The Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Government, Hon. Mojeed Adekunle Kudayisi, on Monday presented a ₦6.95 billion proposed budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the Legislative Council of the local government, tagged “Budget of Renewed Hope,” prioritises infrastructure development, healthcare delivery, education, youth empowerment, agriculture, and social welfare, while maintaining fiscal discipline and accountability.

The presentation took place at the Local Government Hall, Council Secretariat, Igbona, Osogbo, during a formal sitting of the Olorunda Local Government Legislative Council attended by councillors, party leaders, traditional representatives, security agencies, labour unions, council officials, and members of the press.

Focus on Grassroots Development

Presenting the budget, Hon. Kudayisi described the 2026 appropriation proposal as people-centred and development-driven, noting that it was prepared in line with the Osun State Local Government Financial Management Guidelines and prevailing economic realities.

According to him, “This proposed budget reflects the expectations of our people at the grassroots and our collective vision for sustainable development,” the chairman said.

Revenue Projections

The proposed budget stands at ₦6,950,000,000, with projected revenue sources including:

• Federal Allocation (FAAC & VAT): ₦6.1 billion

• Internally Generated Revenue (IGR): ₦650 million

• Other interventions and sources: ₦200 million

The chairman explained that the projections were realistic and achievable, designed to avoid imposing additional financial pressure on residents.

Expenditure Framework

Under the proposed spending structure:

• 40 per cent is allocated to capital projects

• 35 per cent to community development

• 20 per cent to overhead costs

• 5 per cent to contingency funding

He noted that the framework ensures a greater percentage of resources is directed towards visible projects and direct community impact.

Key Development Highlights

Some of the major intervention areas outlined in the budget include:

• Rehabilitation of roads and drainage systems

• Upgrading of primary healthcare centres

• Improvement of primary schools and ECCDE facilities

• Youth empowerment and skills acquisition programmes

• Agricultural support initiatives

• Monthly social welfare and poverty alleviation schemes

Pioneer Legislative Leader, Hon. Muyideen AdeOsun Pledges People-Centred Oversight

In a short but firm address, the Pioneer Leader of the Olorunda Local Government Legislative Council described the day as historic, marking the beginning of a transparent and people-focused legislature.

“Today marks a new dawn for our local government, a day we step into history as pioneers of a bold, transparent, and people-centred legislature,” he said.

He stressed that the council would function as a service-oriented legislature, committed to accountability and development.

“We are not just lawmakers; we are servants. We are voices for the voiceless, champions of the forgotten, and architects of progress right here in our communities,” the legislative leader declared.

He assured residents that the council would insist on results and responsiveness, pledging an end to bureaucratic delays and unfulfilled promises.

“No more empty promises. No more red tape. No more ‘they’ll see to it.’ We’ll see to it together,” he added.

The legislative leader further assured that the council would hold the executive arm accountable, not out of opposition, but in the interest of the people.

“We’ll push for better roads, cleaner markets, safer schools, and accountable budgets. We’ll hold our executives to account, not because we’re against them, but because we’re for the people,” he said.

Addressing various segments of the community, he encouraged youth participation, acknowledged the role of elders, and called on residents to remain actively engaged in governance.

“This legislature is yours. Speak up. Show up. Hold us accountable,” he urged.

He concluded by assuring that the 2026 budget proposal presented by the chairman would receive prompt legislative attention, adding that it would be considered and given accelerated passage in the interest of development.

Commitment to Accountability

Earlier, Hon. Kudayisi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, prudent financial management, proper project monitoring, and regular reporting to the council.

Call for Legislative Support

The chairman formally submitted the proposed 2026 budget to the Legislative Council for deliberation and approval, expressing confidence that collaboration between the executive and legislative arms would deliver tangible benefits to residents.

“With unity of purpose and commitment, we can deliver a budget that truly reflects the aspirations of the people of Olorunda Local Government,” he said.
