Wole Oke Gives Adeleke Government 7-Day Ultimatum Over Teachers’ Recruitment, Demands Refund of Application Fees

The Honourable representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Hon. Wole Oke, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Osun State Government under Governor Ademola Adeleke to immediately commence the employment of secondary school teachers or refund application fees collected from applicants more than two years ago.

Hon. Wole Oke expressed concern over what he described as an unjustified delay in concluding the recruitment process, noting that thousands of qualified applicants who paid fees in anticipation of employment have remained in prolonged uncertainty.

According to the lawmaker, there is no justification for the delay, especially at a time when many public secondary schools across the state are facing shortages of teaching staff. He called on the government to ensure transparency in the recruitment process and stressed that employment must be strictly merit-based.

Clarifying the legal framework governing teachers’ recruitment in the state, Hon. Wole Oke stated that the engagement of primary school teachers is the statutory responsibility of the Local Government Education Authorities (LGEA). He explained that any money collected from applicants for primary school teaching positions outside this lawful process is illegal.

Speaking in his capacity as Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, the lawmaker maintained that all illegally collected application fees should be refunded to the affected applicants.

The ultimatum has renewed public attention on issues of transparency, accountability, and due process in government recruitment exercises in Osun State.
