The Federal Commissioner representing Osun State at the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Amedu Rahim Tadese, has commended voters for the impressive turnout and peaceful conduct of the ongoing Osun State governorship election.
Tadese, who cast his ballot at Unit 2, Unit 3, Ward 2, in Iwo Local Government Area, described the voting process as orderly, noting that there had been no reports of violence, intimidation or confrontation among voters at his polling location.
Speaking with journalists shortly after voting, the NPC commissioner said the turnout was among the most encouraging he had witnessed in recent elections.
“One beautiful thing about this election is that the turnout is very, very high and highly encouraging. So far, there is no incident of violence or intimidation. Voters are casting their votes peacefully. Nobody is arguing, nobody is fighting, and the weather is cool,” he said.
Tadese expressed optimism that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would emerge victorious at the end of the poll, saying such a victory would create an opportunity to replicate at the state level what he described as the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“Our expectation is that APC will win, Insha Allah. We will replicate what Asiwaju is doing at the national level at the state level, so that our party will not be voted out of government in Osun State again,” he said.
He, however, urged political parties, candidates, supporters and voters to remain peaceful and accept the outcome of the election once the votes have been counted and results announced.
The NPC commissioner also criticised the conduct of the 2022 Osun governorship election, alleging irregularities in the process and claiming that voting continued until as late as 11 p.m. in some polling units in Ejigbo Local Government Area.
He described such a development as unacceptable, expressing confidence that the 2026 election would conclude more promptly, with counting expected to commence immediately after the close of voting.
“As you can see, the election is almost coming to an end. In the next one hour, they will start counting votes. So before 7 p.m., the total result for Iwo Local Government must have been ready, unlike the previous exercise in 2022,” Tadese said.
He expressed hope that the calm atmosphere witnessed during voting would continue through the counting, collation and announcement of results.
