OSOGBO – The Osun State Government has denied allegations that it looted ₦11 billion, describing claims attributed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as false and an attempt to justify what it called the unlawful freezing of the state's bank account.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the government insisted that no public funds were looted and alleged that the account was frozen to frustrate the payment of palliatives approved for state workers.
According to the statement, the government claimed the action was carried out on the directive of former Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, alleging that the move was intended to halt workers' welfare payments. The administration, however, said the palliatives had already been paid following negotiations with labour unions.
The state government further accused the EFCC of carrying out what it described as a politically motivated investigation since March 2026, alleging that senior government officials had been subjected to repeated questioning without any evidence of wrongdoing.
It maintained that available state resources have been devoted to infrastructure projects, workers' welfare, and other developmental programmes, stressing that there was "no fund to loot."
The statement also cited Osun State's recognition for budgetary and auditing transparency, arguing that if any credible evidence of financial misconduct existed, the anti-graft agency should follow due legal process rather than freezing government accounts.
Describing the allegation of looting as an afterthought, the government said it rejected what it termed an attempt to damage the reputation of Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration.
