55-year-old, 52-year-old suspects arrested after woman allegedly attacked, beaten and chased from farmland
The Osun Amotekun Corps has arrested two men over an alleged attempted murder and violent attack on a woman working on her farm in Iwo Farm, an area along the boundary between Osun and Oyo States.
The suspects, identified as 55-year-old Fatai Balogun and 52-year-old Rafiu Adesola Balogun, were arrested on Friday, August 28, 2026, following a distress call from residents and farmers who alerted the Iwo Command of the Osun Amotekun Corps to the incident.
According to the Corps, the suspects allegedly attacked the woman while she was working on her farm and attempted to forcefully chase her away from the farmland.
The suspects were allegedly armed with a barrel gun and a cutlass during the confrontation, while the woman reportedly raised an alarm for help.
Her distress call attracted the attention of other farmers and residents in the area, who immediately contacted operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps.
Responding swiftly to the alert, officers of the Iwo Command reportedly raced to the scene, where they confronted and overpowered the suspects.
The two men were subsequently arrested, while a barrel gun and cutlass were allegedly recovered from them.
The suspects were taken to the Osun Amotekun Corps Headquarters in Osogbo for questioning.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to attacking the woman. The Corps further alleged that the woman was beaten with a cutlass and other implements during the confrontation, while the suspects were also accused of terrorising other residents and farmers in the area.
Confirming the arrest, the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, commended members of the public for promptly alerting security operatives.
He also praised the Iwo Command for its swift intervention, describing the incident as a serious act of criminality.
According to Omoyele, the timely intervention of the Corps may have prevented the situation from escalating into a fatal incident.
“Our men were alerted by members of the public about the criminal activities of these suspects, who allegedly attacked a woman working on her farm and attempted to forcefully chase her away.
“Our operatives responded immediately to the distress call and moved to the scene, where they were able to overpower and arrest the suspects with a cutlass and a barrel gun.
“If our men had not arrived at the scene on time, the situation could have resulted in the death of the woman. We commend the people who raised the alarm and contacted the Corps promptly.”
The Corps Commander reiterated the commitment of the Osun Amotekun Corps to protecting residents, farmers and communities across the state, particularly those operating in areas vulnerable to criminal activities.
He warned individuals involved in violent attacks, intimidation and other criminal activities that security agencies would continue to collaborate with members of the public to identify and apprehend perpetrators.
Following preliminary investigation by the Osun Amotekun Corps, the two suspects were transferred to the Zone 11 Police Command, Osogbo, for further interrogation, investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law.
The Corps also urged residents and farmers across Osun State to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to security authorities.
The Osun Amotekun Corps reaffirmed its determination to collaborate with other security agencies and members of the public to maintain peace and protect lives and property across the state.
