The political aura of Osun State remains thick with anticipation and spiritual undertones, a phenomenon vividly captured in the gripping narrative of The New Man. Every December, thousands flock to hear the annual prophecy of a revered pastor, a man known not just for his oratory, but for the haunting accuracy of his revelations. The church overflows. The lame are carried in, the blind led by hand. Many stand barefoot on pebbled ground, craning necks and stretching ears to catch every word of what the new year holds.
In one such service, the man of God stood before a breathless crowd and thundered a warning that has since echoed through the political corridors of Osun State:
“There is a man here who will bring ruination to the land, defiling it and causing suffering for generations to come.”
Though he mentioned no name, the undertones were unmistakable to those who have watched closely, the reference pointed to the potential elevation of Governor Ademola Adeleke within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC). A scenario many believe would not only disrupt the fragile peace within the party but betray the ideological foundation laid by its founding fathers: Obafemi Awolowo, Bola Ige, Chief Sonibare, and others who sacrificed much to birth the party’s progressive dream.
To bring such a man into the core of the APC, some argue, would be to hand a match to someone already drenched in political kerosene. It would be a betrayal, not just to party principles, but to the generations that look up to the APC as a bastion of integrity and structure.
Baba Bisi Akande, a living symbol of sacrifice and struggle within the party, is hereby called upon to guard the legacy he helped forge. Do not let the temple collapse while the builder still breathes. This is no time for indifference.
A Chinese proverb aptly reminds us: “When the wind blows, the trees sway.” The APC must now ask; are we swaying to the gusts of individual ambition, or rooted deeply in the soil of principle?
Another ancient saying states: “A single thread can break, but many threads woven together are unbreakable.” This is the hour to strengthen the threads of unity, not fray them through compromise.
Governor Adeleke’s actions often described as erratic and self-serving, suggest a man more interested in personal glory than collective progress. His growing desperation is palpable, likened by one observer to “a stone thrown into a calm lake, causing ripples of chaos.”
We must not allow ambition to blind us to lessons already learned. The Oracle's words must not be dismissed. As declared: “Without Ede's influence, victory is certain for the APC.” History and hindsight both offer us this warning, and we ignore it at our peril.
As the Yoruba saying goes: “A wise man learns from another's fall.” The APC must now choose between the seductive pull of short-term gain and the enduring strength of principle.
Emperor, once bitten, twice shy, we know what this man can do.
Let the past instruct the present. Let the Oracle’s warning not fall on deaf ears. Let Osun’s future not be auctioned for political convenience.
