Abuja Protest: Adeleke Dynasty Begging With One Hand, Blackmailing With The Other

 




The Adeleke Dynasty's political theatre has reached a disturbing new level of contradiction, a dangerous dance of hypocrisy that insults both reason and democracy.



On one hand, emissaries of Governor Ademola Adeleke are reportedly lobbying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu behind closed doors, pleading for the Governor’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2026 elections. The same dynasty that rode to power on the back of “Imole” propaganda now sees a path to survival in the very party they vilified.



Yet on the other hand, they are openly sponsoring a smear campaign against the APC-led Federal Government. Today, a paid protest under the guise of a “human rights march” was staged in Abuja by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), targeting federal institutions over the Osun local government crisis.


Let’s be clear: this was no organic movement. It was a politically orchestrated performance aimed at blackmailing the Tinubu administration while pretending to champion the rule of law. The Adeleke camp is using HURIWA to launder its agenda, trying to paint the APC as lawless while seeking political shelter under its very roof.



This is a classic case of eating your cake and demanding more.


HURIWA, during their protest, claimed that APC officials are illegally occupying local government secretariats in Osun despite court judgments. They parroted talking points lifted directly from Osun Government House, demanding that the Federal Government redirect funds to PDP “chairmen” allegedly elected in February 2025 -- in an election marred by illegitimacy and conducted under highly questionable circumstances.


This same PDP government in Osun has, for over a year, operated in blatant defiance of existing court rulings, including the landmark judgment that sacked their caretaker committees. It is not APC clinging to power; it is the Adeleke administration refusing to respect federalism and the autonomy of LGAs, weaponizing protests to distract from their own illegality.



You cannot be begging to join APC in the night and blackmailing APC in the day.


This two-faced strategy is not just cowardly; it is dangerous. It undermines national unity, sows discord between state and federal institutions, and attempts to drag the presidency into a local dispute born from the Adeleke camp’s own desperation and lack of governance credibility.


If Governor Adeleke believes he has a valid case, he should return to the courts, not outsource his political tantrums to rented crowds in Abuja.


Mr. President should not allow blackmail to replace dialogue. The Adeleke dynasty cannot hold the APC to ransom while trying to sneak into its fold through the backdoor.


The Federal Government must see through this charade and uphold the rule of law, not according to Adeleke’s whims, but in line with clear judicial pronouncements.


In 2026, Osun people will remember this: while Adeleke danced, he also begged. And when he couldn't lead, he tried to blackmail.
