In the grand field of Osun politics, not every pass is made based on skill, sometimes, the crowd cheers the loudest dribbler, not the most consistent midfielder. But history remembers. And if politics in Nigeria were a fair game, Hon. Wole Oke would have earned the first pass long before Senator Ademola Adeleke stepped onto the pitch.
Wole Oke's journey began when it was unpopular, even dangerous to dream beyond the established order. As a young man with vision, he dared to speak for his people under the banner of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at a time when the Alliance for Democracy (AD) dominated his hometown. Back then, political loyalty was tribal; if you weren’t AD, you weren’t accepted. The hostility was intense. Yet Oke stood firm, funding campaigns with personal resources, risking assets and reputation, not for show, but for service.
In those days, “Egbe Demo” was more than a name, it was an identity that shut doors to anyone outside the fold. Oke was labeled a political gambler for standing against that tide. But in reality, he was a statesman in training, learning, persevering, enduring. He knew how to wait for the whistle, respect the offside line, and still find his way to the goal.
Fast forward to today, and the irony speaks loudly. Senator Ademola Adeleke, who rose on the wave of name recognition and emotional appeal is now navigating turbulent waters as a sitting governor. Rumors of potential defection to the APC circle his name. But one can’t help but ask: where was this courage when the storm first brewed?
Those who truly understand political football know the signs. The PDP is losing core players through transfer windows, not because they’ve stopped believing, but because the team no longer works as a unit. Too many red cards from internal divisions, too little team play. The praise singers who should call out the cracks now applaud the

Wole Oke stayed when it was tough. He fought battles when there were no cameras. He believed when others jumped ship. If the system had rewarded consistency, clarity, and character, he should have taken the first pass, and perhaps the match would be playing out differently today.
