Wole Oke Supporters Decry Plot to Malign Lawmaker, Call Out Ogungbangbe and Adejorin's Osogbo Meeting

Supporters of Hon. Oluwole Oke, the Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, have condemned what they describe as a coordinated effort to malign the lawmaker’s reputation. This follows reports of an alleged meeting convened in Osogbo by Bayo Ogungbangbe and Mayowa Adejorin, said to be aimed at issuing a press release targeting Hon. Wole Oke.


In a statement issued on Tuesday, the group expressed dismay at what they called a "baseless and desperate" attempt to divert attention from Hon. Oke's recent remarks during an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting.


“We, the supporters of Hon. Wole Oke, are compelled to respond to the alleged meeting called by Bayo Ogungbangbe and Mayowa Adejorin in Osogbo, which purportedly aimed to orchestrate a media attack against our principal,” the statement read.




They maintained that Hon. Oke’s comments at the APC meeting were made in the spirit of democratic engagement and responsible party leadership.


“The statements made by Hon. Wole Oke were grounded in legitimate concerns over governance and party direction. Targeting him for raising these issues is not only unfair, it is a disservice to the values of free speech and internal party democracy,” the group added.




Describing the move as an "orchestrated distraction," the group urged political actors to engage in meaningful discourse instead of personal vendettas.

 

“We stand firmly by Hon. Wole Oke’s right to voice his opinions and provide guidance within the party. Silencing such voices weakens the democratic process and promotes a toxic political culture,” they noted.




The supporters called on party members and stakeholders across the state to prioritize unity and constructive dialogue over divisive actions and smear tactics.

The statement concludes with a call to uphold the integrity of public discourse and reject attempts to manipulate political narratives for selfish gain.
