Trump Says Putin ‘Won’t Mess Around’ With Him Ahead of Alaska Meeting

 



United States President Donald Trump has declared that Russian leader Vladimir Putin “is not going to mess around with me” as the two prepare for high-stakes talks in Alaska on Friday.


Speaking to reporters, Trump struck a confident tone ahead of his first face-to-face meeting with Putin since returning to office. The president suggested the encounter would send a clear message about U.S. resolve in global affairs, particularly concerning the ongoing war in Ukraine.


“This is about strength, clarity, and peace through strength,” Trump said. “If I weren’t president, Putin would be doing whatever he wanted, but he knows better now.”


The Alaska summit comes amid continued tensions between Moscow and Kyiv, with the White House seeking to position the United States as a decisive broker in the conflict.


In a surprise hint at future diplomacy, Trump suggested a follow-up summit could bring together Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and “maybe” other world leaders, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, to build on whatever progress emerges from Friday’s meeting.
