Let Justice Heal Akinlalu: Wole Oke Applauds IGP Egbetokun’s Swift Action, Calls for Transparent Investigation into Amotekun Killings
The Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Busayo Wole Oke, has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, and the Nigeria Police Force for their swift and professional handling of the investigation into the alleged killing of innocent residents of Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, by operatives of the Amotekun Corps.
Hon. Oke described the Police response as a credible show of leadership and accountability, adding that it has rekindled public trust in law enforcement at a time when confidence in internal security structures is being tested.
“The prompt intervention by the Police is a commendable demonstration of professionalism and responsibility. It reaffirms that the law still stands as both a shield for the innocent and a sword against impunity,” he said.
According to reports, the incident occurred on October 1, 2025, when operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun), allegedly led by a retired Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr. Adekunle Omoyele, invaded the Akinlalu community, leaving no fewer than ten residents dead and several others injured.
In response to the national outrage that followed, Hon. Oke noted that the Police had since sealed the Amotekun operational bases in Osogbo and Ile-Ife and arrested about twenty operatives for interrogation.
He lauded the IGP’s decisiveness but called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation to ensure justice is delivered without fear or favor.
“The arrest of suspects is a significant step toward accountability, but the investigation must be exhaustive. Every individual linked to this tragedy, regardless of influence or status must face the full weight of the law,” Oke emphasized.
The lawmaker warned that no society can prosper where citizens live in fear of those mandated to protect them, stressing that the sanctity of human life must remain inviolable.
“The people of Osun State, particularly the grieving families in Akinlalu, deserve justice and closure. We must rebuild faith in law enforcement by isolating and prosecuting rogue elements within any security formation,” he said.
Hon. Oke appealed for calm among residents as investigations continue, assuring that the House of Representatives will closely monitor developments and ensure adequate legislative oversight.
He reaffirmed that Nigeria’s democracy can only thrive when the rule of law prevails and when every citizen, no matter their rank or background, is held accountable before the same justice system.
“Let justice be served,” Oke concluded. “And let peace return to our communities.”
