Three Killed in Morocco’s Gen Z Protests

 

Three people have been confirmed dead following youth-led anti-government protests in Morocco, marking the most violent escalation since the demonstrations began.

The protests, largely driven by the Gen Z movement, erupted over frustrations with poor public services, corruption, and lack of accountability. What began as online mobilization spilled into the streets of several cities, drawing thousands of mostly young demonstrators.

Authorities reported that the fatalities occurred in the town of Leqliaa near Agadir, where protesters attempted to storm a gendarmerie station. Security forces opened fire during the confrontation, leaving three dead and several injured.

Unrest has spread across multiple cities, with demonstrators demanding better education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. Hundreds have been arrested, including many minors, while reports of property damage and clashes with police continue to emerge.

The protests highlight growing frustration among Morocco’s younger population, who say they are excluded from political decision-making and denied the basic services promised to citizens. Calls for reform have intensified, with organizers vowing to continue demonstrations despite the rising casualties.
