Media entrepreneur and political figure Dele Momodu has launched a strong verbal attack on former presidential aides Reno Omokri and Femi Fani-Kayode, describing them as “shameless friends” in a heated political exchange.

In a statement circulating online, Momodu accused both men of lacking credibility and attempting to silence dissenting voices. He alleged that their past criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu contradict their current stance, suggesting inconsistency in their political alignment.

Momodu further claimed that both Omokri and Fani-Kayode had previously reached out to him privately for support, even after publicly criticizing him, an allegation that could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.

Claims of Dictatorship

While distancing himself from more extreme allegations often directed at President Tinubu, Momodu maintained that his primary criticism of the administration is rooted in what he described as “dictatorship.”

Referencing Nigeria’s democratic history, he cited the annulment of the June 12, 1993 Nigerian presidential election widely believed to have been won by Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, as a personal point of reflection in his opposition to authoritarian governance.

“I oppose tyranny because I once suffered under it,” Momodu stated, reaffirming his stance.

Political Undertones and Restraint

Momodu also revealed that his past association with President Tinubu influenced his decision to tone down public criticism, including suspending his widely read “Pendulum” column in select publications.


He added that appeals from respected Yoruba elder statesmen and retired military generals contributed to his decision to give the current administration time to stabilize.

Escalating Political Tensions

The statement underscores growing tensions among prominent political voices in Nigeria, particularly within circles that have, at different times, shared political alliances.

As of press time, neither Reno Omokri nor Femi Fani-Kayode has issued an official response to the claims.
