Osogbo Residents Stage Protest Over Erratic Power Supply, Demand Action From IBEDC

 

Tension flared in Osogbo as angry residents took to the streets to protest what they described as persistent and unbearable power outages in the city, calling on the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to urgently restore stable electricity.



The protesters, made up of youths, traders, and community members, expressed deep frustration over what they termed “epileptic power supply” despite regular billing. Many carried placards with inscriptions demanding fairness, transparency, and immediate improvement in service delivery.

According to residents, entire neighborhoods in Osogbo have experienced prolonged blackouts, crippling small businesses and making daily living increasingly difficult. Business owners say they now rely heavily on generators, spending huge sums on fuel just to keep their operations running.



“We are tired of darkness,” one protester said. “We pay our bills, yet we don’t enjoy stable electricity. We don’t want to keep quiet anymore.”

Some demonstrators also raised concerns about estimated billing, arguing that customers should not be charged heavily for electricity they do not consistently receive.

Electricity remains essential for economic growth and public well-being. As the protest in Osogbo signals growing public dissatisfaction, residents are urging IBEDC to act swiftly to prevent the crisis from escalating further.
