No deployment, no influence, no political maneuvering can override the will of the people, says Speaker



At the Osun State Assembly Complex, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly,


Adewale Egbedun, has raised serious concerns over what he described as a calculated attempt to influence the electoral process in the state.

Addressing journalists, Egbedun disclosed that the Assembly had been alerted to the sudden resignation of the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alongside credible reports of an ongoing redeployment of key electoral personnel.

According to him, the reshuffling allegedly extends beyond a single office, potentially affecting administrative secretaries, electoral officers, assistant electoral officers, and ICT personnel across Osun State. He warned that such widespread changes, especially at a sensitive political moment, raise legitimate concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.

The Speaker drew a comparison with Ekiti State, which precedes Osun in the electoral calendar, noting that no similar pattern of mass redeployment has been observed there.

“Why Osun State?” he queried, describing the situation as both suspicious and troubling.

Egbedun further alleged that there are credible links between these developments and the influence of Gboyega Oyetola, a claim likely to intensify political tensions as the state prepares for upcoming elections.

Despite these concerns, the Assembly maintained a firm stance: no administrative maneuvering, no matter how strategic, can override the collective will of the Osun electorate.

“These calculated efforts, no matter how structured, cannot alter the resolve of our people,” Egbedun said. “The people of Osun State are politically conscious, vigilant, and determined to ensure that their votes reflect their true choice.”

The Speaker also raised alarm over alleged plans within the Ife/Ijesha Senatorial District to compromise the electoral process by positioning partisan actors in critical roles such as returning officers and supervisors. He described such moves as unacceptable and warned that they would be strongly resisted.

The Assembly called on all electoral officials deployed to Osun to operate strictly within the provisions of the Constitution and electoral laws, emphasizing that anything short of a free, fair, and credible election would not be tolerated by the people.

In a broader appeal, Egbedun urged the international community, development partners, and observers of democratic governance to closely monitor unfolding events in Osun State.

Speaking on behalf of the people, he concluded with a resolute message:

Osun demands nothing less than a transparent, credible electoral process.

“Osun State is politically aware, vigilant, and deeply committed to democratic values. The people will not accept any action from any quarter that undermines the credibility of the electoral process.”
