BREAKING: NDC Faces Revolt as Supporters Reject Alleged Plot to Substitute Primary Winners

 

Supporters and well-wishers of Hon. Chinomso Agomuoh, the declared winner of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) primary election for the Apapa Federal House of Representatives seat, have issued a strongly-worded open letter to the party's national leadership, warning against any attempt to substitute candidates who emerged victorious in the just-concluded primaries.

In a statement dated June 21, 2026, and signed by Comrade Babatunde Femi Johnson, Comrade Kenneth Uche Okeze, and Comrade Aisha Muyibat Ayelara Ibrahim, the group described reports of planned candidate substitution as a direct attack on democracy and the collective will of party delegates.

The supporters called on the National Chairman and members of the National Executive Committee of the NDC to protect the integrity of the party by respecting the outcomes of the primaries conducted nationwide.

According to the statement, Hon. Chinomso Agomuoh secured victory in the Apapa Federal Constituency primary election through a transparent and competitive process, earning overwhelming support from delegates.

The group alleged that certain influential figures within the party were making moves to replace the aspirant with another candidate despite his victory at the polls.

They warned that any attempt to overturn the results could trigger widespread dissatisfaction among party members and weaken public confidence in the NDC ahead of future elections.

"Hon. Chinomso Agomuoh's emergence was the product of hard work, grassroots acceptance, and strict adherence to party guidelines," the statement noted, insisting that denying him the ticket would amount to disenfranchising party members who voted for him during the primary election.

The supporters further disclosed that arrangements were already underway for a large-scale protest in Abuja should the party leadership fail to uphold the primary results.

According to them, concerned members from Lagos and other parts of the country are mobilising to converge on the NDC National Secretariat to demand justice and transparency.

They urged the party leadership to affirm the victories of all duly elected candidates, reject any form of illegal substitution, and uphold the constitution and guidelines of the NDC.

The group expressed hope that the party would choose the path of fairness and internal democracy, stressing that such a decision would strengthen the NDC's reputation and unity.

Copies of the open letter were also addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), relevant security agencies, members of the NDC National Working Committee, and the media.
