Storm Rider at Dawn: A Tribute to Courage, Kindness, and the Quiet Makers of Change

Oriontimes Editorial Board | November 27, 2025 In the pages of my memoir, “ Voices From the Fire: My Journey Through a Hollow Empire ,” one name rises like thunder braided into destiny, Mr Akinlolu Olumide Funso , the man I codenamed Storm Rider . Not because he seeks the noise of battle, but because he carries the rare grace of one who understands storms, survives them, and shields others from their fury. My philosophy remains simple yet necessary: Let those with good hearts know that they are good, for when goodness is left uncelebrated, evil begins to look beautiful. Today, Storm Rider celebrates his birthday. And just as the sun honours the morning without proclamation, I honour him with truth, not embellishment. There is a policy embraced by many Americans: “Look around you and see what you can change.” It is a creed of quiet responsibility, one that moves without applause. Storm Rider lives by it. He sees what is broken and chooses, in his own steady way, to mend what he c...

Insight Initiative Urges Supreme Court To Break Silence As Osun LG Crisis Stalls ₦100bn Grassroots Funds

A nonpartisan, youth-led civil society organisation, Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development (IICSD), has called on the Supreme Court to expedite judgment on the prolonged Osun Local Government legal dispute between the Attorney General of Osun State and the Attorney General of the Federation . The case, marked SC/CV/773/2025 , was heard on October 7, 2025, with judgment reserved. However, nearly two months later, no decision has been delivered. In a letter to the Chief Justice of Nigeria , IICSD warned that the delay has deepened the leadership vacuum at the grassroots, as two rival factions continue to lay claim to council authority across Osun State. According to the group, over ₦100 billion in federal allocations released to Osun local governments since March 2025 have remained largely unutilised due to the leadership dispute, crippling essential services such as healthcare, basic education, and local infrastructure development. IICSD, the organisation behi...

Senate Calls for Review of Firearms Law to Allow Responsible Citizens Own Guns

In a significant national security development, the Nigerian Senate has called on the Federal Government to undertake a comprehensive review of the country’s firearm laws , a move aimed at allowing responsible and law-abiding citizens to own guns for self-defence. The resolution followed a motion raised on the floor of the Senate addressing Nigeria’s worsening insecurity , including kidnappings , banditry , attacks on schools, and targeted killings . Lawmakers argued that with security agencies overstretched, citizens should have the legal option to protect themselves and their families. Nigeria’s current Firearms Act , originally enacted in 1959, already provides limited provisions for civilian gun ownership — but only through a stringent licensing process, and with many types of weapons strictly prohibited. The Senate’s new call seeks a modern review to align the law with present-day realities. According to the motion, the review would establish clearer frameworks for who qu...

The ceremonial pardon, a lighthearted event held annually before Thanksgiving, spares the birds from the dinner table, allowing them to live out their days on a farm. The tradition dates back decades and has become a staple of American holiday celebrations. Trump, joined by staff and onlookers, carried out the event with his signature flair, highlighting the fun side of the holiday season. The turkeys, now officially pardoned, will be sent to a farm to enjoy their remaining days.
