Oluwole Oke Hails Osun Lawmakers’ Defection as Strategic Shift in Nigeria’s Political Tide

In a defining moment for Osun State politics, four federal lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking what observers are calling a strategic realignment ahead of the 2026 general elections.



The defection, officially announced on the floor of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, was greeted with jubilation by APC lawmakers and party loyalists. Among those in attendance was Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke, member representing Ijesa North Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, who described the development as a “bold and strategic move” that underscores a growing confidence in the APC’s leadership and national vision.


Also present at the ceremony were Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal Sooko, Chairman of the APC in Osun State; Senator Ajibola Basiru, National Secretary of the APC; and other high-ranking stakeholders who gathered to celebrate the political crossover.

“These lawmakers have chosen vision over division, and structure over sentiment. The APC remains a party with a roadmap for sustainable development, inclusive governance, and national stability.”



Party insiders view the defections as a tactical win in the ongoing struggle for political dominance in Osun State, a key battleground in Southwest Nigeria. The shift also reflects a growing frustration among former PDP members over unresolved internal conflicts and ideological disconnects.
