Osun INEC Flags Off Voter Registration, Sets August 8, 2026 Date for Governorship Election







The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has announced that the 2026 governorship election will be held on August 8, 2026, marking the official start of the electoral process with the posting of the Notice of Election across all 30 local government offices and the Modakeke

area office.


Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Mutiu Agboke disclosed this on Wednesday at the Olusegun Agbaje Media Centre, Osogbo, during an expanded stakeholders’ engagement that brought together political parties, security agencies, the media, civil society groups, religious bodies, and representatives of persons with disabilities.


Agboke said the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will begin on August 18, 2025 with online pre-registration via www.cvr.inecnigeria.org, followed by biometric capture starting August 25 at INEC local government offices. Physical registration will also be available at no cost.


Current electoral statistics for Osun show 1,954,800 registered voters, with 1,594,006 PVCs collected and 360,794 cards uncollected. The state has 332 wards and 3,763 polling units. The REC urged residents not only to register but also to collect their PVCs, stressing that “No PVC, no voting.”


Key dates in the 2026 election timetable include:


Party primaries: November 24 to December 15, 2025


Submission of nomination forms: January 15 to February 9, 2026



In line with inclusivity, INEC will provide Braille ballot guides, magnifying glasses, assistive listening devices, and priority voting queues for persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and the elderly.


Agboke warned against underage registration, vote-buying, electoral violence, and fake news, calling on political parties, civil society, and the media to intensify voter education.


INEC will deploy the INEC Voter Enrolment Device (IVED) for CVR and the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for the election. The REC assured stakeholders of transparency, fairness, and credible polls.


“Your vote will count. We shall do the right thing at all times,” Agboke affirmed.
