Shocking case reignites calls for stronger child protection laws
The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old man, Edward Ngozi Odega, over allegations of incest involving his three daughters, aged 13, 19, and 24.
According to the Tribune, the arrest followed a formal complaint and credible intelligence suggesting that Odega had repeatedly violated his daughters over a period of time. Police authorities described the case as “disturbing” and confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
The Command’s spokesperson said the victims have been moved to a safe environment where they are receiving medical care, psychological support, and protection from further harm.
The general public across Delta State have condemned the incident, calling for a comprehensive prosecution that will serve as a deterrent to similar offenders. They also urged the government to strengthen community-based reporting systems, noting that many cases of domestic sexual abuse go unreported due to fear, stigma, or familial pressure.
Child protection advocates emphasized that this case exposes a deeper societal problem: the danger children face when abuse happens within the home, a space that should be their safest refuge.
