APC Raises Alarm Over Ikire Violence, Alleges Coordinated Attacks on Members and Security Personnel

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that recent violent attacks in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area, were politically motivated and targeted at its members, security personnel, and innocent residents.

Speaking on behalf of the Osun APC Media Cluster, Olufunsho Fagbohungbe described the incidents as a disturbing breakdown of law and order, alleging that armed thugs operating under political protection unleashed violence on residents, commuters, and law enforcement officers in the town.

According to the statement, the party claimed that the violence escalated around major transport hubs in Ikire, where armed groups allegedly attacked civilians, disrupted commercial activities, and created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.

Fagbohungbe further alleged that police officers who responded to distress calls were attacked, while some service rifles were reportedly taken during the confrontation. The APC media spokesman named several individuals whom the party accused of involvement in the violence and called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations.

The statement also referenced previous incidents of political violence in Irewole Local Government, arguing that failure to prosecute past offenders had encouraged a culture of impunity. APC leaders expressed concern that the latest violence could further threaten peace and stability in Osun State if decisive action is not taken.

The party specifically called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, and other security agencies to intensify efforts to restore order, secure public facilities, and ensure that those found culpable are brought to justice.

Fagbohungbe further alleged that statements made by some opposition political figures had contributed to heightened tensions in the state. He urged political leaders across party lines to embrace peaceful engagement and avoid actions or rhetoric capable of inciting violence.

While extending condolences to families of those reportedly affected by the violence, the APC appealed to its supporters and residents of Osun State to remain calm and refrain from acts of retaliation.

"Osun State belongs to all its citizens, and no political disagreement should be allowed to undermine public peace and the rule of law," the statement concluded.

The allegations contained in the APC statement remain the party's position, and responses from the Osun State Government, the Accord Party, and other individuals mentioned were not immediately available at the time of filing this report.
