“Initiate the Recall If You Dare”: Wole Oke Dares Odeyemi, Says His Mandate Is People-Powered, Not Politically Purchased
The constituency office of Hon. Wole Oke has responded with biting clarity to remarks by Diran Odeyemi, who recently challenged the five-term federal lawmaker to resign and re-contest under a new party platform.
Odeyemi, in a statement published by The Punch on Monday, May 5th, also threatened to launch a recall campaign if Oke failed to heed his call.
But the Oke camp is unbothered.
“We are not shaken by the empty noise of a political paperweight,” the statement began. “Hon. Wole Oke draws his mandate not from political merchants or media provocateurs but directly from the people of Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, the same people who have re-elected him five consecutive times.”
The statement noted that unlike Odeyemi, who has never won an election or contested in his own polling unit (Unit 2, NUD, Amlek, Ibokun), Hon. Wole Oke remains a grassroots-backed leader with unmatched political credibility in the constituency.
“Diran Odeyemi was appointed, not elected. He thrives on proximity to power and political patronage, not on genuine popularity,” the rebuttal stated. “His threat to recall Hon. Oke is laughable, he couldn’t even recall himself to relevance in his hometown.”
The office described Odeyemi as a “political merchant” whose influence is sustained not by achievements but by feasting off those with real mandates. “He is a self-styled fixer who milks aspirants and brands himself as a power broker, yet cannot command the vote of his ward, let alone a federal constituency.”
In a bold response, Hon. Oke’s office threw the challenge back:
“Let him initiate the recall process, if he dares. The people who have stood by Hon. Wole Oke through five elections will stand by him again louder and clearer.”
The statement further accused Odeyemi of leveraging his alliance with the Adeleke dynasty to peddle influence, while offering no real value or loyalty in return. “The Adelekes should be wary. Diran is not a stakeholder; he’s a saboteur waiting for the right transaction.”
The closing message was direct and unequivocal:
