The lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Wole Oke, has expressed concerns over the performance of the administration of Ademola Adeleke, stating that the governor has demonstrated the full extent of his capacity in governance and that Osun State deserves better leadership.
Speaking during a media interaction with members of the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA), Oke described the engagement with journalists as a necessary platform for discussing the future of governance in the state.
"It is always a pleasure interfacing with gentlemen of the press as we collectively discuss the task of reclaiming quality governance in Osun State," he said.
Assessing the administration of Governor Adeleke since assuming office, the seasoned lawmaker acknowledged the governor's efforts but argued that leadership requires more than good intentions.
"My assessment over the years since Governor Ademola Adeleke took over the leadership of Osun State is that he has tried his best. We have seen his capacity. Our position now is that you can only give what you have. He has limitations in terms of capacity, policy direction, finances, and governance," Oke stated.
The federal lawmaker further alleged that several constitutional provisions, laws, and regulations have not been adequately observed by the current administration, a situation he claimed has contributed to challenges across various sectors of the state.
"My conclusion is that the provisions of the Constitution, relevant Acts, laws, and regulations have been breached. That is why we are witnessing confusion in several sectors," he said.
Citing the education sector as an example, Oke lamented the condition of public schools and the shortage of teachers across the state.
"When you look at our educational system, the state of classrooms across Osun is disturbing, and there is a shortage of teachers. These are issues that require urgent attention," he added.
The lawmaker also pointed to concerns in the areas of security and agriculture, arguing that residents are increasingly worried about the direction of governance in the state.
According to him, local governments under the control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have continued to support security agencies through the provision of operational vehicles and motorcycles to strengthen law enforcement efforts.
Oke further claimed that Governor Adeleke is fully aware of the political realities ahead of the next governorship election, suggesting that the governor's confidence has waned.
"The incumbent governor no longer dances the way he used to because he knows what many of his supporters do not know. He is already waiting for August 15, when the people of Osun State will decide their future at the polls," Oke said.
The remarks add to the growing political debate ahead of the next electoral contest in Osun State, with opposition figures intensifying their criticism of the current administration while the government continues to defend its record in office.
