Rising Political Violence in Osun: APC Campaign Council Accuses Adeleke of Fueling Insecurity, Demands Urgent Action

The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has raised alarm over what it described as an escalating wave of politically motivated violence across the state, alleging that supporters of the ruling government are targeting innocent citizens and backers of the party's governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Council condemned what it called a growing culture of intimidation, harassment, and violence allegedly being carried out by criminal elements linked to the ruling party.
The Council called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to immediately rein in his supporters and political associates, warning that continued violence could further destabilize Osun State and threaten public peace.
According to the statement, campaign buses belonging to the APC were attacked and vandalized on Tuesday morning in the Owode-Ede area by individuals suspected to be supporters of the PDP/Accord alliance. The incident reportedly left several AMBO supporters injured, while campaign materials and other valuable property were destroyed.
The APC Campaign Council described the attack as a direct assault on democratic values and political freedom, insisting that violence has no place in a democratic society.
The statement further referenced an earlier incident in Owode-Ede involving the business vehicle of prominent APC campaigner, Alhaja Falilat αΊΈrα» Erike. According to the Council, employees of her company were allegedly assaulted and injured by individuals believed to be loyal to Governor Adeleke.
The Council claimed that those involved warned the victims against entering Ede, the governor's hometown, alleging that the attacks were politically motivated due to Alhaja αΊΈrα» Erike's criticism of the state government's policies.
"Why should the political preference of any citizen become a crime?" the Council queried, adding that no individual should face persecution for holding differing political opinions in a democracy.
The APC Campaign Council also expressed concern over reports linking one of the governor's appointees, Nurudeen Alowonle, to recent disturbances. It alleged that Alowonle, who was reportedly arrested with firearms and ammunition two years ago, is currently involved in violent confrontations among rival factions.
The statement further alleged that buses branded with Governor Adeleke's campaign insignia were seen conveying individuals armed with dangerous weapons during the disturbances.
According to the Council, internal disputes among political groups have contributed to violent clashes in parts of Osogbo, resulting in injuries to innocent residents and heightened fear among citizens.
The APC Campaign Council commiserated with families who reportedly lost loved ones, sustained injuries, or suffered property damage during the incidents in Osogbo and other affected communities.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with every victim and family affected by these unfortunate developments," the statement read.
The Council subsequently called on the Inspector-General of Police and other relevant security agencies to intervene decisively and prevent further deterioration of the security situation in the state.
It specifically demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged attack on the business interests of Alhaja αΊΈrα» Erike, the vandalization of APC campaign buses in Owode-Ede, and the violent disturbances reported in Osogbo and surrounding communities.
