The Osun Amotekun Corps has become aware of a misleading publication circulating on social media, particularly on a Facebook platform, alleging that one of its officers died as a result of a road accident while travelling to a duty post in Ondo State.
The Corps wishes to categorically state that the allegation is entirely false, misleading, and without any factual basis. At no time was any officer of the Osun Amotekun Corps involved in a road accident while travelling to duty in Ondo State or any other location as being falsely portrayed by the promoters of the report.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Corps had earlier addressed similar allegations in a previous press statement and clearly established the facts surrounding the unfortunate demise of Officer Adediji Abdullah. Consequently, the claim that the late officer was involved in an accident while travelling to a duty assignment in Ondo State is completely unfounded.
Furthermore, there was no report made to the Headquarters of the Osun Amotekun Corps regarding any road accident involving the late officer. Information made available to the Corps by relatives of the deceased confirmed that Officer Adediji Abdullah passed away following a brief illness while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Osogbo.
It is therefore disturbing that certain individuals continue to circulate unverified information and deliberately distort facts surrounding the officer's death. The Corps views these actions as an attempt to exploit a sensitive matter for political advantage and to create unnecessary controversy around a security institution dedicated to the protection of lives and property in Osun State.
The Osun Amotekun Corps remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and the welfare of all its personnel. We strongly reject any attempt to misrepresent the circumstances surrounding the death of our officer or to use the institution as a tool for political propaganda.
We therefore urge members of the public to disregard the baseless allegations and refrain from sharing unverified reports capable of misleading the public and causing unnecessary tension. We also call on those responsible for the dissemination of the false information to desist from such actions and embrace responsible communication in the interest of truth and public peace.
The Corps assures the people of Osun State that it remains focused on its constitutional responsibilities and will continue to prioritize the welfare, safety, and well-being of its officers and personnel at all times.
