Political Earthquake: Governor Adeleke Scrambles to Save PDP Stronghold After Oke Jumps Ship



Osun State is reeling from a political shockwave following the dramatic resignation of Hon. Oluwole Oke, the Obokun/Oriade House of Representatives member, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),

The defection has triggered panic at the highest levels of government, prompting Governor Ademola Adeleke to urgently summon party leaders from Obokun Local Government for a closed-door crisis meeting, as fears of a broader collapse in party loyalty take root ahead of the 2026 governorship race.


Governor Adeleke’s recent move comes in the wake of widespread reports that Oke’s defection has rattled the PDP, especially in the Obokun/Oriade axis, a critical stronghold for the party.

In what seemed as unease climate, according to report, Aides have been discreetly instructed to steer clear of Oke’s path, underscoring growing concerns about a potential wave of defections.


An emergency meeting has been slated for Wednesday, April 30, at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo. It will bring together key stakeholders: top PDP figures, local government executives, ward chairmen, and other party operatives. The mission is clear, reinforce internal unity and stop a possible chain reaction that could erode the party’s influence in the region.

It was learnt that the governor’s swift response is driven by fears of losing momentum in a constituency pivotal to his re-election strategy. Local PDP leaders have issued stern warnings, any member not toeing the Adeleke line risks political isolation. The urgency is unmistakable, as the party scrambles to project strength in the face of deepening political uncertainty.


Oke’s exit is widely perceived as a major political setback, with analysts suggesting it could significantly alter the landscape ahead of the 2026 elections. The governor’s immediate summoning of party leaders signals just how seriously his administration views the situation.
