The Director General of the Coalition of Nigerian Youth on Safety and Security Affairs (CONNYSA), Amb. Ade Mario, has reiterated the organization’s commitment to tackling insecurity and youth-related social vices across Nigeria through sustained sensitisation and community-based engagements.
Speaking during the OrionTimes Podcast, Amb. Ade Mario lamented the poor level of civic orientation and public understanding of governance, stressing that stronger collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) is crucial in rebuilding trust between the government and citizens.
“The level of orientation, sanitisation, and awareness about what governance truly means is still poor. That is exactly where the National Orientation Agency needs to come in,” he stated.
The CONNYSA DG noted that many government interventions often miss their target because leaders fail to engage communities and understand their pressing needs.
According to him, governance can only become impactful when leaders rise above political interests and prioritize the welfare of the people.
“When we begin to see governance beyond party lines, governance will become more effective,” he added.
Projecting the organization’s efforts in combating insecurity, Amb. Ade Mario revealed that CONNYSA embarked on nationwide campaigns last year targeted at curbing cultism, internet fraud, drug trafficking, money laundering, and substance abuse among youths.
He maintained that many of these social vices are consequences of failed leadership and poor governance structures.
“These vices are man-made and were birthed as a result of poor governance and the attitude of political leaders voted into power,” he said.
The youth leader disclosed that CONNYSA partnered with the Office of the Minister for Youth to execute several intervention programmes aimed at promoting national security and youth reorientation.
According to him, the organization’s first national programme was held at the Army Resource Centre in Abuja, while subsequent regional engagements took place across the country, including Osun State for the South-West, Port Harcourt for the South-South, Kano for the North-West, and Gombe for the North-East.
Amb. Ade Mario described the initiatives as strategic and solution-driven engagements designed to address the root causes of insecurity while empowering young Nigerians toward responsible nation-building.
