Red Cross looks ahead to 2023 after grueling time

As this time comes to a close, numerous people look back over what they have overcome. That is also true for associations like the American Red Cross. The Red Cross started 2022 with its first- ever public blood extremity, which marked the association's worst deficit in further than 10 times. The nation's blood force was dangerously low at the morning of the time, but Steve Thomas, administrative director of the Southern Maine Chapter of the American Red Cross of Northern New England, is hoping for a brighter launch to the new time in the days ahead. Thomas said the blood force has stabilized since early 2022 and there isn't presently a blood deficit or blood exigency in Maine or across the nation, which is defined as smaller than a five- day force of blood, but he wanted to remind people there's an ongoing need for blood donations. " The need for blood is constant," Thomas said." Blood is a perishable product. It can not be fluen...

Some were found in stranded vehicles or in snowbanks; others died after being without power for a matter of days. Even as the rescue effort continued, official and emergency workers were reeling from what they said was the extraordinary challenge of saving people in the blizzard, which set records for its duration — 36 straight hours — and 79-mile-an-hour winds. Thousands of U.S. flights were canceled by yesterday afternoon as airlines struggled to recover from the holiday storm, leaving passengers stranded. Ukraine Attacks Russian Air Base

Ukraine launched a drone attack on the Engels air base deep within Russian territory, killing three troops, the Kremlin said yesterday, as Kyiv’s forces demonstrated that they were increasingly prepared to take the fight to Russia. Engels, home to some of Russia’s nuclear-capable strategic bombers, was one of two air bases targeted by Ukrainian drones on Dec. 5. It was the third such strike this month, reflecting an assessment by Ukraine’s political and military leaders that there was little risk of Moscow’s escalating its war in retaliation. The Russian military is already fighting at the limits of its conventional capabilities, Ukrainians say, and the Kremlin’s hints of using nuclear weapons ring hollow. In the months after Russia invaded, Ukraine’s allies voiced concern about attacks on Russian soil and the risk of retaliatory escalation, as the Kremlin has threatened repeatedly. The U.S. and others still refuse to supply Ukraine with long-range weapons and insist that the weapo...
