The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing attack on a member of the House of Representatives, Bamidele Salam, describing his recent comments against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, governorship candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), and campaign Director-General Wole Oke as “uncharitable, ill-informed and misleading.”
In a press statement issued on April 16, 2026, the party accused Salam, who represents Ede-North/Ede-South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, of acting out of political frustration and desperation ahead of the forthcoming Osun governorship election.
The APC said Salam’s remarks during a television appearance were “unguarded and derogatory,” particularly his description of Oyebamiji as a “weakling.” The party defended its candidate as a competent and accomplished figure with a proven track record in both public and private sectors.
The statement further alleged that Salam’s outburst was driven by internal political pressure and fear of electoral defeat, noting that his preferred candidate, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, is facing declining popularity.
According to the APC, Salam’s criticisms were not only baseless but also an attempt to remain politically relevant and secure his re-election bid. The party insisted that Oyebamiji remains a strong contender in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The party also dismissed Salam’s comparison between President Tinubu and Governor Adeleke, describing it as “misplaced and illogical,” while reaffirming confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and governance style.
On the controversy surrounding the transfer of the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), the APC maintained that such actions fall within the administrative jurisdiction of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and should not be politicized.
The statement further alleged that the opposition’s reaction to the REC’s redeployment may be tied to unverified claims of electoral manipulation, though no concrete evidence was provided.
Reiterating its stance, the APC expressed confidence in its campaign structure, particularly under the leadership of Wole Oke, stating that the party remains focused on securing victory in the upcoming election.
The statement concluded by asserting that no amount of criticism from political opponents would derail the APC’s chances, insisting that the performance of the incumbent administration has fallen short of public expectations and will ultimately influence voters’ decisions at the polls.
