Accord Condemns APC Chieftain Banik for Misogynistic Remarks, Defends Dignity of Osun Women

 Party calls for apology and urges public condemnation of comments that demean women and undermine their role in society.

The Osun State Chapter of the Accord Party has strongly condemned remarks attributed to Mr. Adebayo Adeleke, popularly known as Banik, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing them as reckless, misogynistic, and deeply offensive to women.



In a video circulating widely, Mr. Banik was reportedly heard joking about women, urging APC members to use money to induce and “marry off” housewives, particularly those affiliated with the Accord Party. Accord officials described the comments as irresponsible and insulting to the collective dignity of women in Osun State.

Pastor Victor Babalola Akande, Chairman of the Accord in Osun State, called the statements “reckless, unbecoming, and symptomatic of a growing penchant for senseless utterances.” He stressed that Osun women are industrious traders, professionals, farmers, entrepreneurs, caregivers, and leaders, whose dignity and contributions cannot be reduced to objects of political gamesmanship.

Accord further reminded Mr. Banik and the APC that Nigeria is a signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), both of which affirm the inherent dignity, equality, and worth of women.

The party demanded an unreserved apology from Mr. Banik and urged the APC leadership to publicly distance itself from such offensive statements. Accord also called on the women of Osun State to “take judicious note” of the insult and respond appropriately by politically rejecting representatives who demean them.

“Man speaks from the abundance of the heart,” Pastor Akande stated, noting that Mr. Banik’s remarks revealed a hidden agenda against women, who deserve respect always.
