Ile-Ife Pays Tribute to Oluomo Gbenga Owolabi as Governor Adeleke Highlights His Legacy

Emotions, honour and heartfelt reflections filled the atmosphere in Ile-Ife on Thursday as family members, political leaders, associates and well-wishers gathered for the funeral and interment of the late Oluomo Gbenga Owolabi, a respected administrator, grassroots politician and community leader whose life was widely described as a symbol of efficiency, smartness and service delivery.









The solemn service was held at Saint Paul Anglican Church, Aiyegbaju Oja-Ife, where clerics, dignitaries and residents assembled to pay their last respects and celebrate a legacy rooted in public service and community development. Hymns and prayers echoed through the church as ministers offered intercessions for the bereaved family and encouraged worshippers to reflect on purposeful living and moral values.



Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke described the late Oluomo as a consummate administrator and pro-people politician whose business and public life reflected productivity and dedication to grassroots progress. Speakers across political and social circles noted that his leadership style promoted unity, stability and development, particularly during his tenure as Chairman of Ife East Local Government.



A deeply personal tribute by Oluwafemi Owolabi portrayed the deceased as both a brother and father figure whose departure leaves a profound silence. He recalled shared memories, laughter and the reassuring presence that defined Oluomo’s role within the family and among close associates.



Beyond politics, Oluomo Gbenga Owolabi was remembered as an entrepreneur and philanthropist who invested in local growth and created opportunities for many.




Friends and colleagues described him as approachable, compassionate and committed to uplifting others without seeking recognition, while family members highlighted his quiet generosity, strong values and enduring life lessons.
