Nigerian Monarch Bans Open Grazing, Vows to Prosecute Offenders

 

Ibadan, Oyo State – The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja (Aruse I), has issued a strong warning against the continued practice of open cattle grazing in Ibadanland, describing it as illegal, unacceptable, and a threat to local communities.

The monarch’s position was made known in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Chief Solomon Ayoade, following a meeting with members of the Olubadan-in-Council and the Ijaye Farm Settlers Association at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan.


Oba Ladoja emphasized:

“Open cattle grazing is not only illegal but also prohibited in Ibadanland and Oyo State in general. Offenders will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.”

The ban comes amid growing concerns over destruction of farmlands, insecurity, and conflicts between herders and farmers in the region. The monarch urged local traditional leaders to actively enforce the prohibition and safeguard the lives and property of residents.

This decisive stance reinforces existing Oyo State laws against open grazing and signals a stronger role for traditional institutions in maintaining law and order within the state.
